Last night, the travel guides were treated to an insider tour of the Eastern Cape.
Giving a Kiwi twist to the TV show’s normal format, this season’s hosts are all regular New Zealanders who got to see amazing parts of their country.
From the slopes of the sacred Maunga Hikurangi to the unbeatable beaches of the Pacific, travel guides have adapted a lot to their time in TairÄwhiti Gisborne. Here’s what they did on their Tiki Tour backyard in the Aotearoa Single Cone.
Where they stayed
Waikanae Beach TOP 10 Vacation Park
With a name like TOP 10, you know Waikanae Beach is no ordinary vacation park. With both beach access and a heated pool, the RV is a big cry for surfers or a family holiday – just on the outskirts of town.
Tirohanga beach campsite
Across the cape, Tirohanga Beach in the Bay of Plenty is your classic kiwi campsite.
The Maui RV Rental Company is your one stop shop for renting a home on the go. Check out their shoulder season offers for up to 15 percent off motorhome rentals.
What did they do
Diving in Tatapouri
In the shallows of Tatapouri beach, rays are regular guests. You can see them from the shore or don a pair of waders to meet them in person. Dive Tatapouri organizes Reef Ecology Tours to visit the Whai Repo, which is not shy.
Salt Shack Surf School
The beaches of Gisborne are a favorite spot for surfers on the east coast. However, if you’re gearing up for big waves or just looking for a place to try, you’d do well to check in with Salt Shack. Led by siblings Holly and Jay Quinn, they recently started a women’s surf camp for longer getaways.
Horseback riding on the east coast
A family business passionate about horses, running around a coastline paradise.
Horse riding from 1 hour of wandering in the night camps until the Kereu river.
Rere Rockslide & Falls
A natural wonder, well worth the 50 minute drive out of town. A spectacular waterfall smoothed into a natural slide, many visitors jump on a boogie board or just jump on their butt to slide into the pools below. Take care of yourself on the rocks and have fun!
