The Block 2022 Exclusive: Kev, Dorian and Teng from Travel Guides preview the sound and camera departments
It takes a lot to make a show like The blockwith dozens of people behind the scenes doing everything from on-site construction to editing all the filmed footage.
travel guides his friends Kev, Dorian and Teng are just three of the many people who work on the production side of The block.
In the second episode of their series block guides – which you can watch above – they take us inside their workplace to share some insights into what they do.
Kev first showed the audio shack where everything the contestants say is recorded. This is how it can be combined with the images to make it the show we see on television.
Inside Teng showed off a huge sound card that he says is “as high-tech as it gets”.
“It’s like fiber optic cables that run for miles upon miles…nothing goes unnoticed,” he said.
This means that the equipment captures everything that happens within five To block houses, and the day Kev, Dorian and Teng were filming their tour, the judges were on set.
The audio equipment is so good that the trio heard cheeky comments from Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer.
“Have you seen the travel guides any guys around here?” Shaynna asked Darren.
“Yeah, they’re all nuts. They crashed a Kubota (RTV utility vehicle) today…” he laughed.
“Just get a license!” Shaynna said out loud so Kev, Dorian and Teng could hear.

The travel guides trio all made the same sound in response, which was “Woahhhhh”.
“We heard something we shouldn’t have heard,” admitted Kev.
In Kev’s camera department, he showed off the equipment used to capture all the important action that happens during the renovations.
“The block wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for these hard-working cameramen,” Kev said.
However, Kev’s job doesn’t actually involve filming the contestants, his job is to hide small cameras on set so they can capture the action, but viewers can’t see them.

Teng is bound to this task because his job is the same, but he has to hide the microphones.
Then it’s off to “the most essential department in the whole To block— the room where Dorian bakes toast to the crew.
