Part of the fun is planning it together. And there’s no minimum or maximum age for an epic mother-daughter vacation. Whether your daughter is a kid or an adult, it’s a chance to have fun together and check off items on the to-do list.
Here’s our list of the best mother-daughter trips
Mother-daughter trip to Hawaii
Hawaii is one of my favorite destinations. My family of five have traveled to Hawaii together several times on family vacations. And I also traveled with my son and two daughters separately. On mother/daughter getaways, each trip is different, personalized for my daughters. For example, Christina and I go horseback riding and have spa treatments. Meanwhile, my adventurous daughter, Megan, and I enjoy snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, and trekking through rainforests. We also abseiled to the waterfalls. One of our most exciting excursions was a helicopter tour to Kauai’s Jurassic Falls. These types of adventures are definitely a bonding experience.

Trip to Disney World with your daughter
For Dee Dean, a mother-daughter trip to Disney World in Florida is magical. And she did it twice, once with each of her daughters. Each trip was a unique way to bond with her daughters one-on-one. Her top tip for girls’ travel ideas? “Pass on the excitement! A girl needs to know that you plan on having a good time with her,” Dee said.

Mother-daughter getaways in the wine region
More recently, for a birthday combined with Mother’s Day, my daughter Christina planned a lovely weekend in Temecula. It is an ideal destination for wine tasting in Southern California. Christina became an insider and introduced me to her favorite wineries and boutique hotel. His favorite is Ponte Vineyard Inn, where we spent two nights. My daughter Megan joined us for one night making it a special mother-daughter trip.

Northern California Vineyards
Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley has hundreds of wineries to suit every taste. My daughter and I went wine tasting with my friend and her daughter. And we watched a sommelier slash a bottle of champagne with a sword.
Another great place for wine tasting is Sonoma. In particular, we appreciate Healdsburg. It’s a small town with several wineries, boutique hotels, and a state park nearby. It is also a paradise for gourmands.
A mother-daughter road trip in California
TravelingMom Kim Orlando and daughter Sophia love road trips. In fact, Sophia was planning to go on spring break with classmates from Arizona to Cabo San Lucas. She passed that up to join her mother on a road trip to California. That says a lot about their bond!
For their mother-daughter vacation, they soaked up the sun on several beaches in Manhattan, Mission Bay and Pacific Beach San Diego. Foodies also took a cooking class, kayaking and wine tastings. “After all, California is wine country, isn’t it?” said Kim.

New York for a mother-daughter trip
Moms and daughters who love Broadway shows and museums should head to New York. As a cultural hotspot, the Big Apple promises plenty of fun on a mother-daughter vacation. With so much to see and do, plan your trip to New York together and listen to your daughter’s travel ideas.
Lace up your walking shoes and visit famous historic sites like the Statue of Liberty and Times Square. Then take your best girl out to dinner and see a show. Plus, New York is one of the best places to grab a drink and take in the view from a rooftop bar.
Additionally, New York has many beautiful places outdoors. In fact, did you know that New York State has 22 national parks, 10 of which are in New York City?

Cruises for mother-daughter vacations
Cruises offer plenty of opportunities for a girls trip. First of all, most cabins are quite small, so you will be sharing tight spaces. But you are used to sharing, aren’t you? It’s fun to get ready together and even share clothes and makeup. Or at least get styling and makeup tips from the ladies! My daughters and I enjoy sailing together so much that we sail for a year or two. It has become a tradition.
If you’ve ever sailed, you know there are plenty of options. Caribbean cruises usually visit sunny islands. Or maybe you and your daughter love cool-weather adventures. On Alaskan cruises, you’ll see wildlife, glaciers and more. Activities range from scenic train and seaplane rides to rafting and hiking.
A river cruise in France begins and ends in Paris. A TravelingMom says the big appeal of a French river cruise are the daily excursions. They allow you to discover the towns or countryside of Normandy along the Seine, with the cruise company providing the logistics.
Mother-daughter trip to Quebec
My daughter Christina and I spent a few days in Quebec thinking we could practice our French. But no ! Although we had fun trying. We quickly discovered that the French spoken in Quebec is different from Parisian French. However, this did not spoil our enjoyment. And anyway, English is spoken in Quebec.
Quebec is such a pretty city. And so practical. We did a walking food tour to explore the city and visit historical sites. We also did a day trip to Ile d’Orleans. There we had a delicious farm-to-table lunch on the small island.

Relaxed weekend by the lake
From Los Angeles, it takes about 90 minutes by car to get to the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa in the San Bernardino National Forest. It had been years since I had been to Lake Arrowhead. In fact, the last time was when my kids were little. So Christina and I thought it would be fun to go there on a mother-daughter vacation. We had a blast!
The resort enjoys a prime location on the sparkling private lake, which is owned by the residents. Our spacious room with balcony overlooked the lake and pool. We stocked the mini fridge with snacks and drinks, then walked to the village. There we had tropical drinks and a late lunch at the Jetties Waterfront Kitchen. The drinks and food were delicious and the service was top notch.
Everything about the woodsy spa resort makes for a great mother-daughter weekend getaway. We relaxed at the spa, swam in the pool and soaked in the jacuzzi. The resort also offers yoga, meditation, and other wellness activities. Plus, the resort has a private beach, which is a perfect place to sip wine and watch a sunset. The on-site Bin 189 is a stylish restaurant with lake views.
